How to Change a UPS Shipping Address
UPS gives customers the freedom to change shipping options after their package is already in transit. This option is beneficial if you have accidentally sent a package to a wrong address or need to have the package returned to you. Recipients can also change shipping options if UPS attempts to deliver the package and no one is available to sign for it. All of these changes can be made from the UPS website, although UPS may charge additional fees to make changes to the shipment.
Sign in to your UPS account on the UPS website to make modifications to your shipment through the Intercept program. If you do not have an account, you can create a free account using the “Register” button from the log-in window.
Click on the “Shipping” tab at the top of the window, then click “View History." If you didn't pay for the shipping through your UPS account, you may need to add your InfoNotice number to your account in order to access options related to the package on the UPS website. Place a check mark in the box next to the shipment on which you would like to perform a UPS change of address. Click “Request Intercept" to reroute your UPS package.
Select the type of interception that you would like to make. Select “Return to Sender” to have the UPS return it to sender, “Deliver to Another Address” to change the delivery address, “Reschedule Delivery” to delay the delivery and deliver on a different date, or “Will Call” to have UPS hold the package at a UPS location for pickup.
Click “Next” to enter your credit card information and to confirm the interception. The interception will be made on the day that the package was to be delivered.
All UPS Intercept services have the same fee schedule, with the exception of the Will Call option, which is free. At the time of publication, interceptions made online are $16.40. You can also schedule any Intercept option over the phone by calling 1 (800) 742-5877. Interceptions scheduled over the phone cost $22.90 at the time of publication.
Locate your 12-digit UPS InfoNotice number on the InfoNotice slip left on your door by the UPS driver who attempted to deliver the package. You may be able to get this number from the seller prior to delivery since the InfoNotice number is the same one used to track packages during shipping.
Go to the UPS website in your Web browser. Enter the UPS InfoNotice number in the “Track” box on the left side of the screen and click “Track." Click “Choose another delivery option” from the “Package Progress” section. Then, choose from the options of “Will Call,” “Deliver to Another Address,” “Reschedule Delivery” or “Return to Sender.” Click “Next.”
Enter any additional information required, as well your credit card information if any additional fees are assessed. Click “Finish” to confirm the submitted the changes. These changes are subject to the same fees as those changes made by the sender.
