Louisiana is home to many sawmills, with the cypress sawmill industry one of the state's first major manufacturing industries. In Bogalusa, Louisiana, Temple-Inland operates two sawmills. One of them is the oldest continuously operated sawmill in Louisiana, originally built in 1902 by the Great Southern Lumber Company. Hanna Manufacturing Company is located in Winnfield, Louisiana, where it mills hardwoods to produce hardwood mats. Each year the mill produces more than 12 million feet of lumber.
