How to Find & Print My Illinois CNA State Certification
Like every state, Illinois has specific requirements that you must meet before starting work as a certified nursing assistant. The Illinois Department of Public Health administers the certification process and maintains an official registry of all CNAs in the state. Printing your certification takes a couple of mouse clicks, assuming you're listed on the registry as having passed the Nurse Assistant Competency Exam.

The IDPH maintains an online database of state certified health care workers that anyone can search by name. To run a search, log on to the registry and type in your first, middle and last name. Hit the "search" button. Your name should appear in the search results. Click on it to see specific information regarding your certification.
If you have a common name and there are multiple "Laura Smiths," for example, click on a name then click the "Validate SSN" link at the top right hand corner of the information page. Type in your Social Security number to verify you have the correct details.
The information page you've located will show a number of details about your CNA certification such as your state police background check, whether you're currently working and where, education programs you’ve completed and the date of your last competency evaluation.
To print the screen, click "print" on your web browser's menu bar. Remember to verify your Social Security number first as this proves you are who you say you are. Your Social Security number serves as the certification number when showing your credentials to a potential employer.
Getting listed in the Illinois health care worker registry requires meeting state training requirements, demonstrating 21 different practical skills to an approved evaluator, passing the state’s written competency exam and passing an Illinois state police criminal history records check without any disqualifying offenses.
You'll also have to file a completed application. If you miss any of these steps, you will not appear on the registry or your status will be listed as "inactive." Contact the IDPH to figure out the status of your certification and what you must do to activate your listing.
Illinois does not issue CNAs Illinois CNA license numbers or cards. The registry is all that you and employers need to verify your CNA status. If you are licensed in another state, you must get on the Illinois state registry before you are allowed to work as a nursing assistant in the state.
Once you're certified in Illinois, you remain certified as long as you continue to work as a nursing assistant in the state. Your registry listing automatically renews as long as you have a job.
