Grants for Riding Stables for Kids With Disabilities
Grants for therapeutic horseback riding stables serving children with disabilities are available from horse breed registries, private trusts and corporate charitable foundations. Local charities, including United Way chapters, sometimes make grants to therapeutic riding programs. In most cases, grants are only given to nonprofit groups with a 501 (c) (3) designation from the IRS. Plan your proposal carefully, detailing your stable's organizational structure, goals, the project for which you seek funding and a project budget.
The American Paint Horse Foundation awarded its first therapeutic riding center grant in 2009. That same year, therapeutic riding classes were added to the American Paint Horse Association Summer World Show and the Foundation gave each of the participating therapeutic riding centers $500 grants. Grants are offered annually. The Foundation also funds the Back in the Saddle program, which bestows a custom-made, therapeutic saddle to an injured and/or disabled equestrian. The program began in 2010.
