The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) is the single largest organization of American war veterans in the United States with more than 1.5 million members spanning all 50 states. Many VFW stations find themselves in need of money to cover expenses such as funeral arrangements and celebrations for the Fourth of July or Veterans Day. Most often the VFW turns to fundraising to help build funds, and there are literally dozens of ways that a fundraiser can help raise money for the VFW.

Bowling/Golf/Softball

Using a sporting event as a way to help raise money for the VFW is a great way for you to not only raise money, but also for the members of the VFW to take part in the festivities. Because many members of the VFW are of an advanced age, they simply can't handle the physical stress of most athletic activities. However, for low-stress sports such as bowling or golf, even these older members can take part in the fun and help their hall raise extra cash.

Raffle

Raffles are an always excellent way for money to be raised for a good cause while still giving people a chance to win something nice. It would make more sense and tie into the festivities better if the item (or items) being raffled off were able to tie in to the VFW or military life in some way, but the items don't necessarily have to be military-themed. If the raffle is being held at an event, you can tie the items being raffled to the event or to a nearby holiday. Regardless of what you raffle off, however, just holding a raffle is a great way to raise money.

"War Stories"

Some VFW halls have begun having fundraising "story days." These are where members of the VFW hall share their stories from the front line with an audience. These stories do more than captivate those who listen to them, they give people insight into why the VFW is so important and how the VFW plays a vital role in the day-to-day lives of these heroes. Simply reminding people about this simple fact can work wonders for raising money.
